One thing's for sure, Londoners love a rooftop bar. From Covent Garden to Canary Wharf, London has so many views to offer, and what better way to watch the sun go down than with a drink in hand.

The one problem you might encounter is, well, the vast array of options. You might be looking for a bottomless rooftop brunch, a date night surrounded by panoramic views and fairy lights, or just a quick drink after work. Whatever it is you're looking for, London definitely has it—you’ve just got to find it.

We've put together our nine favourite London rooftop bars, and given you a brief all-you-need-to-know overview. Whether it's a view of the London Eye you're looking for, or if you're more interested in what the food menu is saying, there'll be something for you.

Queue Waterloo Sunset, let's get started!

 1. Sabine Rooftop Bar

sabine rooftop bar

Serving not just cocktails but breathtaking views from their outdoor terrace, Sabine sits right next to St Paul's Cathedral. As London rooftop bars go, the location is right up there. Think urban garden vibes, think hidden gem, think delicious cocktails. If you're visiting London, St Paul's is an absolute must-see, and this is probably one of the best spots to view it from.

The bar snacks at Sabine are pretty legendary, from Shiitake mushroom gyoza to Lebanese flatbreads to Galician octopus—made all the better by the views of the iconic London skyline.

If you do head to Sabine, we'd recommend building in a visit to the Tate Modern, just across Millennium Bridge, The Barbican, or Tower Bridge. It's the hottest of hotspots for London sightseeing, but Sabine provides a calming sanctuary in the middle of the hustle and bustle. Its domed glass roof and floor to ceiling windows mean it's ideal for all kinds of weather. Not one to miss!

 2. Mercer Roof Terrace

mercer roof terrace

Mercer Roof Terrace, a feature of the Vintry & Mercer Hotel, occupies a place at the top of our list not just because of its award-winning rooftop garden, but because of its variety of options. You can choose between an al fresco dinner, bar snacks in a winter 'igloo', or simply a cocktail at the bar above the city lights.

That's not all—there's also a basement bar called Do Not Disturb (DND), if you're looking for retro glamour and 1920's New York vibe.

Also available for private hire, Mercer is a classy place. The floor to ceiling windows mean it's a season-proof venue (they also provide sheepskin blankets if it gets chilly).

From afternoon tea to three-course dinners, the wining and dining options are endless. The garden rooftop offers a spectacular view of the skyline of Central London. As backdrops go, you can't do much better. And if you need a bed for the night, book ahead at the hotel. What's not to love?

9. Cavo Restaurant

cavo restaurant

Thinking Mediterranean with a London twist? Well, Cavo's your answer. With room for 240 diners, it's a hugely popular destination on Tottenham Court Road. Sun-drenched in summer and star-lit in winter, Cavo offers everything mediterráneo from paella to sangria and back again. Essentially, a slice of summer all year round—in high demand among Vitamin D-deficient Londoners.

Perched on top of the Outernet, an entertainment district in the heart of Central London, Cavo offers the ideal setting to observe the capital from above. With various menus on offer, there's a lot to choose from, but think Basque cheesecake, poached lobster tail, and pan-fried scallops. Tempted? So are we.
